“Education is for all ages at The Waverley Academy”

Week three of Abby’s work experience – TY student from Colaiste Bride Clondalkin.

The first thing I did when I got to the Waverley academy this week was to help Joan bring in products from the stock room for tanning and nail courses happening soon in the Swords college. I then had to prepare the nail kits for these courses so as they could be delivered there.

This helped me know what equipment is needed for these courses and helped with my organisational and planning skills.

Then Joan also showed me all the different paperwork needed for the nail course and exams and we sorted out the answer sheets and exam booklets to make sure there was enough for each student.

After that, I was doing some more stock-taking in the beauty room as I had to make sure there were enough products for the students and trainers.

There was also theory exams happening today at Waverley, and to try help students relax, they all got a little valentine bell that says “ring for a hug” or “ring for a kiss”, how cute! I even managed to get one myself.

This week is also the open week at the college so while Joan was talking to a lady that came in to book a course, Derek and I had our weekly chat.

One thing I learned from him today was that training and education at The Waverley Academy are for people of any age, as today there was a 16-year-old girl and a 60-year-old lady sitting their ITEC exams at the same time! This just shows how important education is, no matter what age you are, and it’s never too late or too early to learn a new skill.

I also learned that it’s important to be kind to your mind. Many people focus on the bad things people say about us when really, we should be focusing on what we’re good at.

We are our own biggest critics, so sometimes you just need to take a moment to think positively about yourself and forget about the negative things people say about you and what you say to yourself!

I’m not at The Waverley Academy next week as its midterm, but I’ll be back the following week!
